Orioles activate Bordick

The Baltimore Orioles have activated former University of Maine and Hampden Academy star Mike Bordick from the disabled list.

Bordick missed 30 of the team’s games after suffering a hairline fracture of his right kneecap.

Bordick was hitting .242 with four home runs and 25 runs batted in at the time of his injury.

The Winterport native, who now lives in Auburn, has been contemplating retirement. The 37-year-old Bordick has suffered serious injuries the last two years.

In 2001, Bordick played in just 58 games after when he injured his right shoulder in a collision with New York Mets second basemen Lenny Harris. The injury required major surgery.

According to a report on the Baltimore Orioles’ official team Internet site, the 37-year-old Bordick will become a free agent at the end of this season.

“Last year wasn’t a good one for me and I wanted to play a full, healthy season this year and that hasn’t happened either. So yeah, I have to think about what I want to do. . . I still feel like I am a productive player. But I will have to talk it over with my family and decide what to do. Right now, I don’t know what’s going to happen. I have some thinking to do,” Bordick said in the story.
