WESTPORT – A Wiscasset teen-ager was killed after his car apparently crossed into an oncoming lane and collided with a backhoe going in the other direction. According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department, Jon Michael Rice, 17, died Tuesday night of injuries sustained in the 5 p.m. accident. He was a senior at Wiscasset High School and a member of the school’s basketball team.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department said Rice was driving south on Route 144 when his car crossed the center line and collided with a backhoe driven by Dana Cromwell, 43, of Westport.
