A Bangor man wanted on a warrant was arrested Monday by police after his girlfriend called to report that he had assaulted her.
Arriving at their residence at 86 Bolling Drive, Officer George Spencer found the girlfriend on the steps outside and 34-year-old James Barclay inside. The woman told Spencer that she and Barclay argued after he returned from drinking. During the argument, she said, Barclay removed the batteries from the phone and hid them.
He then pushed her to the floor, where he kicked her on the right shoulder and leg, she told Spencer.
Inside, Barclay initially claimed that nothing had happened, although with a little prodding from Spencer he admitted to removing the batteries. He said he didn’t want his girlfriend to call her parents. Barclay denied even touching his girlfriend, let alone kicking her.
He was charged with domestic assault and obstructing the report of a crime or injury. Spencer said that a computer check indicated that Barclay also was wanted on the warrant.
The girlfriend was loaned a cellular phone that she can use to call the police.
Old Town police were called to Lot No. 8 at Riverside Trailer Park Sunday morning after three women reported seeing two men force a woman out of a mobile home.
Officer Debbie Holmes found the woman at a home next door and determined that she was unharmed. She also learned that Kevin Pulk, 37, one of the men who had removed the woman from the home, was wanted on a warrant issued out of Washington County.
But getting to Pulk proved problematic at first. When Holmes went looking for the man at Lot No. 8, the second man came to the door and told Holmes that Pulk was asleep and that he couldn’t wake him. Officer Thomas Adams went inside to try his hand at waking Pulk but reported that Pulk was unresponsive when he shook him.
Then Adams grabbed one of Pulk’s arms and told him he was under arrest, something that prompted Pulk to stiffen his arms and pull away from the officer, according to the police report.
Bangor police went into a wooded area along First Street Monday afternoon to find a man who told them he was expecting them.
Far from being a clairvoyant, Raymond A. Frenier, 47, had been involved in an argument with his girlfriend while drinking with her in the woods outside their home. She called the police to report that Frenier was in violation of his bail conditions, which prohibited him from using or possessing alcohol and from having any contact with his girlfriend. Frenier was out on bail from his arrest in mid-July, when he was charged with assaulting the woman.
When Officer Myron Warner arrived, the girlfriend told him that Frenier should still be in the woods, which is where the officer found him, apparently expecting the police.
As well as drinking with Frenier on Monday, the woman admitted that Frenier had been living with her since his arrest in July. Warner explained to her that the bail conditions were put in place for her safety.
