Man, 36, charged after car incident

A Bangor man faces charges after police said he crashed into his neighbor’s car late Friday and then drove off, leaving behind his car’s grille, pieces of headlight and a witness who saw him do it.

A trail of radiator fluid also led from the crash scene at 21 Webster Ave. to the heavily damaged car driven by Randy J. Miles, 36, said Officer James Dearing.

Dearing was called about 11:30 p.m. Friday and found that a car parked on the side of the street had been struck and forced forward about 10 feet.

Parts of a second car were on the ground, including one part with an Oldsmobile insignia on it. A witness reported seeing Randy J. Miles, 36, of 25 Webster Ave. back up after the accident and drive away, Dearing reported.

Dearing confronted Miles – who had a beer in his hand – outside his apartment and Miles admitted to having five drinks before the accident and none after the crash, Dearing said.

Miles had difficulty walking and showed other signs of being intoxicated, according to the police report. He was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and with leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Dearing found Miles’ Oldsmobile behind 25 Webster Ave., its grille gone and its hood pushed up. Its radiator was leaking fluid, and steam was rising from the warm engine.

An Old Town woman was summoned for assault after police said she attacked one of her sister’s friends Sunday afternoon.

Old Town police officers went to the Pine Street home of Angella Caruso, 19, after someone in the house called police. The caller said Caruso was attacking a guest, Old Town police Officer Chris Hashey said. The guest, also 19, who had been visiting Caruso’s sister, was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor for treatment of facial and rib injuries.

Caruso allegedly attacked the woman as soon as she entered the home just before 2 p.m. Sunday, Hashey said. “Apparently there has been a lot of bad blood in the past. The victim didn’t know Caruso was home.”

Police were investigating reports Sunday evening that a third female held the woman down as Caruso cut off her hair, Hashey said. The attack ended before police arrived at the home.
