HERMON — Councilors again will discuss setting a list of goals for the coming fiscal year, when they meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 14.
In a concerted effort last year to identify and set goals, the council established an impressive list, according to Town Manager Kathryn Ruth.
Last year, said the manager, the council understood that not all the goals would be achieved. Nine goals were established after all councilors listed their preferences. Three of those goals have been met, said Ruth, three are being worked on, and three remain to be developed.
The completed goals included working with the Comprehensive Planning Committee. Although the comprehensive plan has not been completed, the council’s goal of working with the committee was achieved, said the manager.
The second goal was to get 60 percent of the voting public involved in the new high school issue, “and we were very close to that,” said Ruth.
The third goal achieved was a review of the building code, and that has just been tied together, she said.
A goal under way is the recent formation of an economic development committee. That committee, under the direction of Councilor Walter J. Munn, has organized and has established goals and that work will continue, she said.
Councilors Anne Freeman and Harold Mailman have been working on cooperative regional activities.
The council also will start work on its five-year capital plan. That also involves working closely with the Comprehensive Planning Committee. Councilors continue work on expanding the town’s sewer and water lines, a project that will tie in with proposed economic development.
