James S. Adams, RFD 4, Box 179, Ellsworth 04605, telephone 537-2282, was among more than 55 young men ages 17-18, and one 15-year-old, who volunteered for duty in the U.S. Navy in 1943 and became known as the Bangor Platoon. The 50th anniversary of their enlistment is approaching and Adams would like to contact those men who were sworn in at Davenport Park, Bangor in August 1943 and trained in Company 991 in Newport, R.I.

The Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1943 will hold its 50th class reunion at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, July 17, and Sunday, July 18, at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall on Presque Isle Street, following the Maine Potato Blossom Festival parade. A group photograph will be taken at 5 p.m., a social period will be held from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and a buffet supper will be available at 6 p.m.
