I read with interest the great column by Paul T. Davis (BDN, Sept. 3). This was in regard to the state deficit and the old debate about higher taxes and lower taxes.
The people in Augusta should figure how much can we afford to spend as individuals and companies – if they are to stay solvents.
It would appear the Legislature says let’s spend this and that, and so on, then decide how to pay for it.
I hope sometime this philosophy will filter down to the lawmakers in Augusta.
