Hunter, Cimbollek to be honored Oct. 6

AUGUSTA – Maine Sports Legends will induct Dwight Hunter of Caribou and Robert Cimbollek of Bangor into the Hall of Honors in ceremonies at the Augusta Civic Center on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Hunter was employed by the Caribou Athletic Department for more than 40 years, most recently as athletic director, and is credited with initiating soccer, track, gymnastics, golf, field hockey, softball, and swimming as parts of the school’s Interscholastic Program. He was name Maine’s Athletic Director of the Year in 1980, received the State Merit Award in 1993, was voted Teacher of the Year in the Caribou School System in 1995, received the Big East Service Award in 1996, and recently received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Maine Interscholastic Athletic Administration Association.

Cimbollek was a basketball official for 33 years in the junior high school, high school and college levels. He was a member of Bangor High School’s 1955 state championship basketball team, which placed third that year in the New England championships. He captained the 1957 runnersup and 1958 Maine State College Basketball Championship teams for Husson College and was selected as the Northeast College Basketball Conference Most Valuable Player as a member of the 1956 championship team. Cimbolleck was selected to the All-League first team three times. Over 24 years as a high school head basketball coach he compiled a record of 446-161, winning five state championships and six Eastern Maine titles. He also coached at the YMCA and for the East Side Little League.
