Broncos defeat Hawks

HAMPDEN – Amy Dwyer scored three goals to lead the Hampden Academy Broncos to a 5-3 schoolgirl soccer win Monday over Hermon.

Two of Dwyer’s goals were unassisted, with Ali Hathaway assisting one. Alethea Mulready’s goal was assisted by Shelley Worthley. Becky Fraser scored the fifth goal unassisted.

In net, Amy Cattelle and Shilo Marden combined for seven saves on 10 shots for Hampden, now 7-2-2.

For Hermon, Heather Pace had two goals and assisted on the second goal by Liza Doughty.

Pam Poland and Stephanie Huff split time in net for 2-8-1 Hermon, combining for seven saves on 15 shots.

GSA 1, Searsport 1

At Blue Hill, George Stevens Academy and Searsport traded goals and battled to a double-overtime tie.

Jenn Shaver scored the only goal for Searsport unassisted with 35:07 left in the first half. Linda Schneider tied the score for GSA with an unassisted goal with 14:33 left in the game.

Searsport goalie Jen Russ had six saves on 11 shots and GSA goalie Kelly Wilson 18 saves on 23 shots.

Searsport is now 6-3-1 and George Stevens 4-3-2.

Brewer 1, Presque Isle 0

At Brewer, Denise Hewes scored with 15:31 left in the first half and the Witches’ defense held the rest of the way to pick up the win.

In goal, goalie Heather Hogan made 12 saves on 17 shots for the 5-4-2 Witches.

Jen White made 14 saves on 18 shots for the 3-4-5 Wildcats.

Schenck 4, PVHS 1

At East Millinocket, Kristen Chavarie scored a pair of goals to lead the 8-2 Wolverines to the win.

Goalkeeper Keli Daigle, who has given up only three goals in 10 games, keyed the defense, by keeping Penobscot Valley off the board for three-quarters of the game. She and Courtney Coffin, who allowed the lone goal, combined to stop five of six shots.

Lisa Provenzano and Holly Rosebush added goals while Amy Hamlin, Heather Rosebush, and Carrie Cram had assists.

For the 3-5-2 Howlers of Howland, Mandy Sage scored off a Jessica Potter assist. Julie Delaite stopped 15 of Schenck’s 23 shots.

Katahdin 3, SAHS 1

At Sherman Station, Melanie Shippee scored two goals to lead the unbeaten Cougars to the victory.

Jodi Dyer assisted on one of Shippee’s goals. Shippee then returned the favor, feeding Dyer for the team’s final goal. Carrie-Jo McNally and Jenny Perry combined to make five saves on nine shots for the winners, now 7-0-2.

For Southern Aroostook of Dyer Brook, Jana Walker scored from Jill Mathers and Diana Goodall had 15 saves on 20 shots.

Lee 3, Penquis 2

At Lee, Kendra Crocker’s corner kick was placed into the back of the Penquis net by teammate Lauren Millett with 14:33 left in the game, lifting the host Pandas to the win over Penquis.

It was the second time Crocker and Millett teamed up to score on a corner kick in the game. Stephanie Thurlow also had a goal for Lee. Heidi Osgood made 11 saves on 17 shots for the winner, now 2-9-1.

For Penquis of Milo, 1-9-1, Amanda Haskell and Sam Estes had the goals while Becky Smart made 21 saves on 30 shots.

Bangor Chr. 5, Woodland 0

At Bangor, Tammi Matula had a hat trick to lead the Bangor Christian Patriots to the win over Woodland.

Erica Johnson had a goal and an assist while Beth Treadwell scored the other goal for 3-6 Bangor Christian. Marji Bassett made nine saves on 10 shots.

For 1-7 Woodland, Gillian Foley made three saves on 10 shots.

John Bapst 2, Ellsworth 1 (2OT)

At Ellsworth, Ashley LeBlanc scored an unassisted goal with 1:55 left in the second extra period to give the Crusaders the win.

Katie Roy scored the other goal for 4-3-4 John Bapst. Jaime Walls made four saves on 11 shots.

Wendy Turner scored an unassisted goal for the 4-5-1 Eagles. Kathy Davis made four saves on 11 shots.

Orono 1, Bucksport 0

At Bucksport, Cheryl Zoerheide made eight stops on 14 shots to earn the shutout and spur the Red Riots to their fifth win.

Jen Freese scored the game-winner off an Angie Upham assist with 17 minutes left in the game for 5-4-1 Orono.

Sherri Sanna made nine saves on 16 shots for 4-6-2 Buckport.

Old Town 1, MDI 1 (2OT)

At Old Town, the Indians gave up a goal with just less than seven minutes left in regulation and narrowly missed handing the Trojans their first loss of the season.

Jill Pellitier scored the MDI goal off a Chafee Howe assist to knot the score for the 7-0-4 Trojans. Jamey Lewis mae seven saves on nine shots.

Kyla Malbon scored a goal for Old Town in the first half on a Jessie Stone feed. Kendra Brown made 11 saves while facing 13 shots.
