STANDISH – Michael Hoffman’s goal off an assist from Hideyuki Adachi lifted the Husson College Braves to a 1-0 men’s soccer victory over the St. Joseph’s College Monks Sunday.

Matt Goodman made 14 saves on 14 shots for 2-1 Husson.

For 2-2 St. Joe’s, Jeff Yeager made 16 saves on 17 shots.

Lasell 2, Southern Maine 1

At Newton, Mass., Don Fenwick scored what would be the game-winning goal for 2-3-1 Lasell in the 65th minute of the game on Saturday.

Ryan Shaunessy also added an unassisted goal while Criag Murphy made three saves on nine shots.

Taylor Lance headed in a free kick by Ian Frank to score for Southern Maine while Chris Willard stopped four of 13 shots for the Huskies.

UM-Fort Kent 4, UMPI 0

At Fort Kent Saturday, Evan Watson had a goal and an assist to help lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals to a shutout over the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls.

Josh Roy, Andrew Clavette, and Juan Murphy each scored goals for the 4-1 Bengals. Chad Bouchard and Nick Thibodeau combined to make five saves on six shots for UMFK’s third shutout of the season.

Tim Dolley saved eight of nine shots for the 2-5 Owls.

Elms College 5, MMA 0

At Chicopee, Mass., Saturday, Adriano dos Santos scored all five goals – four unassisted – for the Elms Blazers.

Jim Ziemba assisted on the first goal for the 3-1 Blazers and Joshua McConnell saved all three shots for a shutout.

For the 1-4 Maine Maritime Academy Mariners, Daniel Loebel saved 12 of 17 shots.

UMF 2, UMPI 0

At Presque Isle Sunday, David Sithole scored two second-half goals to lift UMaine-Farmington by UM-Presque Isle.

Shuji Fukami assisted on the first goal and Brian Mawhinny assisted on the second for the 4-1 winners. Ryan Hersey made two saves on three shots.

Tim Dolley made 13 saves on 17 shots for 2-6 UMPI.

Unity splits pair

At Unity, Unity College downed Eastern Maine Technical College 4-1 Sunday after dropping a 2-0 verdict to Central Maine Technical College Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, Arlin Lamda, Ryan McCallion, Collin Edmondson, and Jay Demers each scored a goal for the 7-1 Rams. Andy Brower and Sean Edwards each had two assists. Dave Clark and Jay Snell combined to make five saves on six shots.

Ryan Paul scored an unassisted goal for the 1-4 Golden Eagles of Bangor and Ryan Masse had 13 saves on 17 shots.

On Saturday, Bergin Sokoi scored both goals, one on an assist from Paul Corey, to lead Central Maine Tech of Auburn to the win.

Mike Morin saved all seven shots he faced for the 5-2 Mustangs.

Clark and Snell combined for four saves on six shots for the Rams.

Women’s soccer

Unity 6, UM-Augusta 0

At Unity on Saturday, Kyla LaPlante scored three goals and assisted on another to lead the Rams to victory.

Shellie Spisnick scored twice for 2-3-1 Unity, while Meghan Healey added a goal. Cara Butterly and Jocelyn Omerod provided two assists each.

Christine Blakely made five saves on six shots.

Sherrie Zimmerman registered 21 saves on 28 shots for 0-3 UMaine-Augusta.

Trinity 5, Colby 0

At Hartford, Conn., Courtney Doyle had two goals and two assists to lead 3-0-1 Trinity past Colby of Waterville on Saturday.

Nicole Mauger scored and had an assist while Leah Felis and Lindsay Aqulina also added goals. Breanna Shield and Katherine Mahoney combined to make seven saves on 11 shots.

Elizabeth Riley stopped nine of the 41 shots she faced for 2-2 Colby.

Clark 2, Southern Maine 1

At Worcester, Mass. Saturday, Rachel Freedmon and Lea Kixmiller each scored unassisted goals in the second half to help give 1-5 Clark the win.

Rebecca Dezan faced 14 shots and made five saves.

Devin Edwards scored Southern Maine’s goal off a cross from Jenny Boucher while Marcy Ansley made 10 saves on 19 shots for the 1-5 Huskies.

UM-Presque Isle 5, UMFK 1

At Fort Kent Saturday, Lucretia Gagnon scored twice to lead the University of Maine-Presque Isle past the UM-Fort Kent Bengals.

Stephanie Gagnon, Jackie Pitcairn and Samantha Grier each scored a goal for the 3-1-1 Owls. Noreen Marcino made six saves on seven shots.

Jess Gagnon gave the 1-4 Bengals a 1-0 lead with a goal off a Lynel Winters assist 20 minutes into the game. Whitney Zettergren made 14 saves on 19 shots.

Elms College 4, MMA 3

At Chicopee, Mass., Saturday, Maine Maritime Academy’s Amy Asselin scored all three goals, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Elms Blazers got an unassisted pair each from Andrea Stevenson and Kelly McCarty

Lauren Stauch made 12 saves on 25 MMA shots for the 3-2 Blazers.

Hillary Arris saved 12 of 26 shots for the 2-2 Mariners of Castine.

Colorado 3, Maine 2

At Boulder, Colo. Sunday, Nichole Taylor scored the game-winning goal for (4-3) Colorado with the assist going to Jennifer Thais.

Thais had her first goal on a penalty kick while Fran Munnelly also scored on a penalty kick. Jeanne Rankin made three saves on seven Maine shots.

Jen Buckley headed in a goal for 2-5 Maine off a cross from Allison Kelly. Erin Corey scored with an assist from Walsh. Naomi Welsh faced 13 shots and saved two for the Black Bears.

UMF Beavers 2, UMPI Owls 1

At Presque Isle, Megan Woodcock scored the game-winning goal for UM-Farmington off a pass from Shannon Mailhot with 32 seconds remaining in the first overtime.

Richelle Dube scored a goal with an assist from Woodcock while Alyson Pontbriand made six saves on nine shots.

Jackie Pitcairn scored an unassisted goal for UM-Presque Isle while Noreen Marcino stopped three of 13 shots.

Husson swept over weekend

The Husson College women were tagged with two losses as Castleton State edged the Braves 3-2 Saturday and Green Mountain College blanked them 3-0 Sunday.

On Sunday, Emma Entroem scored two goals and Marie Harrington added two assists to lead 7-1 Green Mountain to a convincing win after the teams were held scoreless through the first 75 minutes..

Emma Enstrom and Zelda Monney each scored goals while Courtney Mercier had three saves on six shots.

Meg Taylor had 20 saves on 27 shots for the 1-6 Braves.

On Saturday, Marcy Tellier scored two goals, including the game-winner five minutes into the second half, for 3-5 Castleton State.

Casey Wedge scored on a Kendra Sobiech assist. Candace Sherrer made six saves on 12 shots.

Bea DeYcaza and Deidra Ham each scored a goal for the Braves. Meg Taylor saved eight of 16 shots.

Field hockey

USM 1, Westfield State 0

At Gorham, senior forward Sarah Dolley scored late in the second half on a pass from Darci Holland to give 3-2 Southern Maine the win on Saturday.

Jessie Superchi faced no shots in net for the Huskies.

Jill Annunciata made 11 saves on 17 shots for 1-4 Westfeield State.

Colby 1, Trinity 0

At Hartford, Conn., Saturday, Wendy Bonner scored in overtime to lift 4-0 Colby to victory.

Carrie Morin made six saves in goal for the White Mules of Waterville.

Gwen Gillespie stopped six shots for Trinity College.

Endicott 5, Saint Joseph’s 0

At Standish Saturday, Jen McCormack scored two goals and Ashley Wallace assisted on three to pace Endicott past the Monks.

Beth McKenna scored the first goal for the 2-0 Gulls. K.D. Balentine and Alysia Tacinell each scored a goal. Kelly McNamara made five saves on five shots.

For the 3-2 Monks, Mary Tibbetts had 10 saves on 20 shots.

UM-Farmington 3, Husson 0

At Prescott Field in Farmington Saturday, Becky Christiansen scored one goal and assisted on another to lead a three-goal flurry in the final 22 minutes of the first half and get the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers the win.

Amanda Nimon and Sarah Dailey scored the other goals for the 3-0 Beavers. Fawn Albert notched her third straight shutout with six saves.

Jamie Giles saved seven of 10 shots for the 2-2 Husson Braves of Bangor.

Volleyball

Georgia State 3, Maine 1

At Orono Saturday, Randi Van Dam registered 17 kills and Molly Sapp posted 16 as Georgia State beat the University of Maine 25-30, 30-20, 30-19, 30-19 in the final round of the Maine Invitational at Memorial Gym.

Lisa Lykins made 13 kills and had 11 digs for 9-10 Georgia State. April DeCoste provided 52 assists and 15 digs.

Leah Guidinger paced 4-9 UMaine with 16 kills and 11 digs. Kaili Jordan made 19 kills, while Carmen Gabriel had 44 assists.

Heather Denison of tourney champ Portland was named the MVP of the event. Also selected for the all-tournament team were Leah Guidinger of UMaine; Randi Van Dam, Georgia State; Becca Saldana, Oakland; Sheena Surplus, Portland; and Rochelle Healea, Lehigh.
