PLEASANT POINT – The Pleasant Point Passamaquoddy reservation will receive $100,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development agency, according to U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.
The grant will be used for renovation and installation of a sprinkler system on the reservation’s multipurpose building, which serves about 640 people. The grant also will support other minor renovations, including installation of a fire-suppression hood in the kitchen and the purchase of equipment necessary for operation of the building. USDA approved similar funding, totaling $316,200 for the reservation last year.
Rural Development’s Community Facilities Grant program funds up to 75 percent of a program for essential facilities in communities with populations of fewer than 20,000.
