I have watched, listened and read in horror as the rights of a mother and daughter have been trampled by people who have no right to be involved in their decision. I personally support Linda Lafrance’s efforts to make her daughter a do-not-resuscitate in the school she attends. Who knows better than she the quality of Corey’s life. I believe that Linda loves Corey and in the truest form recognizes the emotional and physical pain that she goes through on a daily basis. She wants better for her daughter.
I am shocked that Elaine Makas, local social psychologist, would be “troubled by the decision regarding Brown” (to make her a DNR). Perhaps Makas is a misguided do-gooder in the guise of a social psychologist. Furthermore, I am appalled that the U.S. Department of Education’s civil rights office in Boston filed a complaint against the school committee for granting the DNR order. I do agree that a DNR order for a child without the disabilities that she has would be inappropriate; however, Corey is not that kind of child.
I am tired of personal freedoms being infringed on. I commend Linda Lafrance for the extraordinary love and courage she has exhibited in attempting to protect her daughter’s rights. I support her in her fight to allow Corey “death with dignity.” Ruth P. Walker Bangor
