ORONO – Rebecca Ouellet and Kary Magno each scored in the penalty-stroke overtime session to give the Maine Black Bears a 2-1 women’s field hockey win over the Providence College Friars Sunday.

Tara Bedard scored with 11:07 remaining in the game to give 9-1 Maine a 1-0 lead. It was the eighth goal of the season for the graduate of Skowhegan High School.

But 5-8 Providence tied the match with just 22 seconds remaining in the game on a goal by Lyndsey Brooks

Jaye Lance made 11 saves on 15 Providence shots while Friars goalie Meaghan Moran stopped 10 of 15 shots.

Worcester St. 1, So. Maine 0

At Worcester, Mass. Saturday, Amanda Vasconcelos scored the lone goal 2:05 into the game to spark the Lancers.

Alisha Bates made four saves on seven shots for 5-4 Worcester State, while Jessie Superchi stopped two out of four for the 7-4 Huskies.

Williams 3, Colby 0

At Waterville, Stefanie Noering set up two goals as the Ephs improved to 7-1 with a win over the White Mules on Sunday.

Carrie Morin stopped 10 of 21 shots for 5-3 Colby.

Wesleyan 2, Colby 0

At Waterville, Melissa Courtemanche and Laura Pfeiffenberger scored a goal apiece to lead 6-1 Wesleyan to the win Saturday.

Carrie Morin made 12 saves on 18 shots for 5-2 Colby.

UM-Farmington 5, Elms 0

At Farmington Saturday, Nicki Levesque notched two goals as the Beavers rolled.

Kristin Allen, Mary Berry and Kristen Roy had a goal each for 7-3 UMaine-Farmington. Kelly LeClerc, Mary Sinclair, Becky Christiansen, Sarah Dailey and Angie White each had an assist. Fawn Albert made one save to earn the shutout.

Caroline Bernash racked up 11 saves for 3-8 Elms of Massachusetts.

Volleyball

Maine wins two over weekend

At Fairfield, Conn., Maine went 2-0 over the weekend, defeating Sacred Heart 30-15, 30-17 and 30-14 on Saturday and beating Fairleigh Dickinson 30-11, 30-26 and 30-21.

On Saturday, Kaili Jordan led the Maine offense with 10 kills as well as adding two blocks and two digs.

Carmen Gabriel had 33 set assists, eight kills and three digs for the Black Bears while Leah Guidinger added eight kills and seven digs.

Meghan Eaton had four kills and 13 digs for 0-15 Sacred Heart while Christina Nagle had 10 digs, seven assists and a kill.

On Sunday, Jordan had 17 kills, 6 digs and an assist for Maine who finished the weekend 6-11. Guidinger made 15 kills and 11 digs while Gabriel had 10 kills, 32 assits and five digs on the day.

For 2-14 Fairleigh Dickinson, Michell Feiser had 10 assists, two digs and a kill while Sharon Becker and Carli KaMinska each had seven kills and four digs.

Women’s soccer

Keene State 3, Southern Maine 0

At Keene, N.H., Saturday, three different players scored the goals and Carolyn Crawford dished out two assists in the win for 8-1-1 Keene State.

Marcy Ansley racked up 11 saves for the 1-7 Huskies.

Colby earns weekend split

Elizabeth Riley collected 11 saves on 19 shots as the White Mules shut out the Cardinals 2-0 on Saturday in Waterville.

Colby followed that game with a 3-0 home loss on Sunday to Williams. The loss left the White Mules with a 3-5 record.

Julie Brown notched a goal plus an assist in the Colby win, and Christina Andaya added another.

Kelly McFarling had 11 saves on 19 shots for the 0-6-1 Cardinals.

Kate Harkey scored a goal and assisted on another Sunday as the Ephs beat the White Mules to run their record to 7-2.

Hannah Stauffer and Ann Woods scored goals for Williams of Williamstown, Mass. and Sharla Dodd picked up an asisst.

UM-Farmington 6, Castleton 0

At Farmington Saturday, Megan Woodcock tallied three goals and Rachel Dube two as the Beavers rolled past Castleton State of Vermont.

Shannon Mailhot and Sam Goyette had an assist each for the 8-1 winners, as did Tia Sidelinger. Jill Dalton added a goal. Alyson Pontbriand and Dawn Robertson collected five saves on six shots between them.

Maine 0, Binghamton 0

At Orono Sunday, the Black Bears and Bearcats clawed their way to a scoreless tie.

Naomi Walsh recorded five saves against 14 shots for 3-5-1 Maine, while Lauren Cherry tallied 11 saves on 24 shots for 7-2-2 Binghamton.

Husson 9, Wheelock 0

At Bangor Saturday, Melissa Achorn knocked in three goals and Beatriz DeYcaza and Kristin Pelletier notched two as the Braves rolled.

Pelletier also had an assist for 5-6-0 Husson, as did Kris Pelletier. Erin Pelletier provided a goal, and Patty O’Brien and Deidra Ham had an assist each. Meg Taylor and Ashley Robar made three saves on three shots.

Ashley Holmes stopped 13 out of 41 shots for Wheelock.

St. Joseph’s 4, UM-Machias 2

At Standish, Saturday, Kelly Cyr scored an unassisted goal late in the second half to help lead (4-6) St. Joseph’s to the win.

Jessica Maurais scored the go-ahead goal with an assist from Kelly Cyr while Caroline Sirois scored off a cross by Kerri Driscoll. Katie Sirois got the scoring started with an assist from Casey Cook while Cheryl Northrop stopped five of seven shots.

Stephanie Hannan and Erin O’Callahan each scored unassisted goals while Tricia Farrell made seven saves on 11 shots for 3-3-1 UM-Machias.

Lasell 4, Maine Maritime 1

At Newton, Mass., Ashley Matthews scored three goals and had an assist to carry 5-3 Lasell past MMA on Saturday.

Melissa Frost scored for 1-5 Maine Maritime while the assists went to Jessica Marsh. Megan Marshall stopped 16 shots in net.

UM-Presque picks up win, tie

Presque Isle’s win came Saturday as the Owls ran away from the College of St. Joseph’s Saturday to the tune of 7-0. The Owls then had another home date on Sunday, playing to a 0-0 tie with Lyndon State.

Tara Cropley and Annie Marcion each had two goals in the win.

Steph Gionne, Sarah Sullivan and Amber Howe notched a goal each for 4-2-2 UMaine-Presque Isle. Noreen Marcino stopped all four shots she faced.

UM-Fort Kent has weekend split

At Fort Kent, the Bengals won their first Sunrise Conference game of the season Sunday with a 5-3 victory over the College of St. Joseph’s but fell behind early on Saturday and were edged 2-1 by Lyndon State.

Jess Gagnon had two goals and an assist as the Bengals improved to 2-7 overall. Krystine Cyr had a goal and an assist and Lynel Winters and Megan Foreman scored goals for UM-Fort Kent. Jamie Pelletier and Whittney Zettergren combined on six saves.

On Saturday, the Hornets jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game Saturday and then held on for the win over the Bengals.

Jess Gagnon scored with an assist from Kristine Cyr and Jamie Pellitier made 10 saves for 1-7 UM-Fort Kent.

St. Joseph’s 5, Thomas 0

At Waterville, Tiffany Merril and Shana Howard each scored two goals to lead Thomas past St. Joseph’s.

Caroline Earls added a goal while Casey Cook had an assist and Christy Northrop stopped three of three shots.

Jessie Craft faced 43 shots in net for Thomas and made 26 saves.

St. Joseph’s picks up win and tie

Pete Bettinger’s goal in the 37th minute of the match gave the Monks the 1-0 home win over Thomas on Saturday. St. Joseph’s, now 3-6-2, then played UM-Machias to a 1-1 tie at Standish on Sunday.

Chris Willer picked up an assist on Bettinger’s goal in the win and Jeff Yaeger made five saves on seven shots for St. Joseph’s.

Ryan Conley stopped four of nine shots for 3-6-1 Thomas College of Waterville.

Chris Willer’s header off a cross from Joe Valente put the Monks on the scoreboard first Sunday. Yaeger made seven saves for St. Joseph’s.

Matt Sayler set up Tatenda Chirua with the tying goal for the 3-6-1 Clippers while Courtenay Campbell stopped eight shots.

At Waterville, Alex Blake scored two goals Sunday to lead the Ephs past the White Mules.

Brian Davidson and Andrew Danzinger combined to make seven saves on 20 shots for 4-4 Colby.

At Waterville Saturday, Padraig Hughes and Evan Berding tallied a goal each for the 7-1 Cardinals.

At Newton, Mass. Saturday, Ryan Shaughnessy and Don Fenwick each had an unassisted goal as 5-3-2 Wheelock triumphed.

At Farmington Saturday, Tatenda Chirusa and Mamhoud Sowe notched a goal each for the Clippers.

Andy Swift made three saves against 14 shots to get the shutout for 6-1 UMaine-Machias.

Ryan Hersey stopped four out of 14 shots for the 4-3 Beavers.

At Gorham Saturday, the Huskies and Owls battled to a double-overtime deadlock.

Chris Willard made 12 saves against 22 shots for 3-4-2 Southern Maine, while D.J. Nordmark countered with four saves on six shots for 7-4-1 Keene State.

Vermont 3, Maine 1

At Burlington, Vt., Saturday, Mike Saver scored at 70:22 in the second half to place 7-4 Vermont in the lead and get them the win.

Anderson picked up the assist on the game-winning goal and also scored a goal of his own while Ethan Hutchins added a goal. Ronan Keegan tallied two assists while Ryan Corry and David Sullivan combined for five saves on 16 shots.

Daniel Florez scored unassisted for the 1-6-2 University of Maine while Josh Slostrom faced 11 shots and stopped three for the Black Bears.

UM-Presque earns split

Ryan Lamoreau and Andy Broomhall scored goals Sunday and the Owls picked up a 2-0 home victory over Lyndon State Sunday. UM-Presque Isle had dropped a 1-0 decision to the College of St. Joseph’s on Saturday.

Tim Dolley stopped the only Lyndon State shot he faced for UM-Presque Isle as the Owls improved to 3-8.

Nick Rowe made 10 saves on 13 shots for 0-8-1 Lyndon State of Lyndonville, Vt.

On Saturday, Mike Long scored the lone goal from 22 yards out to win the game for College of St. Joseph’s.

Joseph Scanlon stopped 10 of 13 shots for the 4-4-1 Fighting Saints of Rutland Vermont.

Dolley made two saves on five shots for the Owls.

UM-Fort Kent wins 2 games

At Fort Kent, the Bengals won for the eighth time against one loss and ran their shut out streak to five games with home wins wins over the College of St. Joseph’s and Lyndon State.

Caesar Carrizo took advantage of a deflected shot and punched the ball into the goal late in the second half Sunday to give the Bengals the win over the Fighting Saints.

Chad Bouchard made two saves for 8-1 UM-Fort Kent. It was the Bengals’ fifth straight shutout of an opponent.

Bryan Fischer stopped 13 shots for the 2-6 College of St. Joseph’s of Rutland, Vt.
