Surry man bolts from Bangor court

A man arrested at gunpoint on Sunday by Bangor police bolted from 3rd District Court in Bangor Monday morning while waiting to appear before a judge.

David Finch of Surry was arrested along with his wife, Ellen Finch, on State Street Sunday afternoon.

Finch was waiting in a conference room at Bangor District Court to be called for his court appearance. When the guard turned away to get some paperwork from a court clerk, Finch, who was not handcuffed, bolted out the door.

He ran down Hammond Street to the area near the Grasshopper Shop where he was caught by Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department deputies and Bangor police.

On Sunday, Ellen Finch was arrested on a federal probation violation and her husband was arrested on a failure to appear warrant out of the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office.

It initially was reported that David Finch was wanted on several federal felony charges, but on Monday a spokesman with the U.S. Marshal’s Office said there were no federal charges pending against David Finch.

There are charges pending against him in Hancock County, according to an official at the Hancock County District Attorney’s Office.
