Greenville police eye vandalism suspects

GREENVILLE – Police have suspects in connection with the vandalism that occurred earlier this month at the Moosehead Marine Museum.

Vandals released the bowline to the steamship Katahdin, ripped out telephone lines to the museum, and ripped off a sign that identified a parking area.

The vandals also broke into two private boats that were moored at the museum dock, according to Greenville Police Chief Duane Alexander.

“It was clearly an act of vandalism,” Richard “Duke” McKeil, executive director of the museum, said Thursday. The vandalism occurred Oct. 3 or 4. He said the Katahdin has two locked lines attached to the dock, but the bowline is a critical line.

McKeil said binoculars, a VHF radio and beer were stolen from the boats.

An anonymous resident posted a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person or people who did the damage.
