Volunteers to help breast cancer patients

FORT KENT – The American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery program will offer women an opportunity for discussion by matching breast cancer survivors with women dealing with the disease.

The program is meant to complement a woman’s relationship with her doctor by helping to point out questions she should ask her physician and providing additional nonmedical information. Visitors also let women know about resources for breast cancer patients.

Training classes for breast cancer survivors who are interested in becoming Reach to Recovery visitors will be held at the following locations:

. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, Northern Maine Medical Center, Fort Kent.

. 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle.

Lunch will be provided at the above sessions. A recertification session for current volunteer visitors will be held 1-4 p.m. at each location on the same day.

To learn more about the Reach to Recovery program or to sign up for the visitor training, contact Debbie Seybold at the American Cancer Society, (800) 464-3102, Ext. 3.
