ORONO – The University of Maine Black Bears let a 2-2 tie slip away as visiting Hartford scored two unanswered goals in the second half and pulled away for a 4-2 women’s soccer victory here Friday.
Maine got off to an early lead as Kate Crawford scored on an assist from Heather Hathorn. Hartford responded with goals from Jeanette Akerlund on a Patty Woodson assist and Malin Engman on a Katharina Lindner pass, before Maine tied the game at 2-2 in the beginning of the second half on a goal by Angie LeBlanc on an assist by Annie Hamel.
Woodson scored again on a header from Cindy Walsh. Walsh finished off the day’s scoring with an unassisted goal into the right side of the net .
Naomi Welsh saved 11 of the 18 shots she faced for 3-6-1 Maine. Heather Hinton blocked one of the nine shots she faced for 7-4 Hartford.

Albany sweeps Maine
At Orono, Albany dealt a 3-0 loss to Maine (6-13, 0-1 America East) in its America East conference season-opener.
The Great Danes (10-8, 1-1 America East)made 19 service aces including 14 from Eileen Rodriguez.
Freshman Leah Guidinger and Senior Amber Sammons led the Black Bears. Guidinger had eight kills and Sammons had 11 digs. Sophomore Carmen Gabriel made 22 set assists and three kills.
