Stewart sparks Bucks to win

BUCKSPORT – Tiger Stewart earned the complete-game win and drove in two runs as Class B Bucksport knocked off Class C front-runner George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 5-2 in a high school baseball game Wednesday.

Stewart singled twice for the Golden Bucks, while Peter Kenny drove in a run with a double and two singles. David Winchester singled twice and scored two runs.

Adam Gray stroked a pair of singles for the GSA Eagles.

At East Sullivan, Brian Jordan and James Schwartz hit RBI singles to lead the Tigers past the Vikings. Starter Brenton Parritt struck out seven in five innings to pick up the win.

Jason York had a pair of singles for the Vikings, and hard-luck pitcher Albert Edwards struck out 10 but walked seven.

At Thorndike, Ron Littlefield delivered the winning run with a one-out sacrifice fly in the eighth as Belfast rallied past Mount View.

The Lions preserved the win by throwing out two runners at the plate in the bottom of the eighth, including a game-ending throw by right fielder Scott Stevens, who nailed Brendan Gow trying to score from second.

Greg Schleble had two doubles and two RBIs for Mount View.

At Husson College in Bangor, Evan Stinson accounted for all of Orono’s earned runs with two RBI singles.

Chris Bagley struck out five to earn the pitching win for Orono.

Jeremy Spence doubled, singled, and drove in the lone John Bapst run.

At Rockland, Aaron Peters and Ian Poulin each had two RBI in the first to spark a seven-run inning for the Raiders. Greg Michaud added two singles and a triple for Winslow. Greg Dunbar struck out seven.

Darren Goeke had two singles to lead the Tigers.

At Hampden, the Broncos built a 7-2 lead and withstood a Warriors rally in the last two innings.

Tim Patchell ripped a three-run double in the fifth for Hampden, while Mike Tardif had three singles and Mike Wentworth doubled and singled.

Steve Dunakin led Nokomis of Newport with a solo homer and an RBI double.

At Ellsworth, Mike Harmon and Chris Massengale each had a double and a single and three RBIs as Ellsworth built a 10-1 lead en route to its victory.

Matt McDonald had two base hits for the winners.

Jason Brown, Aaron Brown and David Thomas combined on a five-hitter.

Thom Mosley’s three singles and Jerry Burns’ two-run single paced MDI.

At Hermon, Dan Card scored the only run of the game on a walk in the second inning. Card also struck out seven with only two walks in a pitchers’ duel. Dave McLaughlin and John Montgomery each singled twice for the Minutemen.

Chad Scripture struck out eight in a losing cause for the Hawks, giving up only the walk to Card. Adam Hunt led Hermon with two singles.

At East Sullivan, Alison Stevens struck out nine batters in five innings of work as the host Tigers turned back the Vikes.

Abby Seward ripped two triples and drove in two runs for the winners, while Lonna Perry had an RBI double.

At Thorndike, Miranda Mason spun a two-hitter and drove in two runs with a double to lead the Lions past the host Mustangs.

Sara McFarland’s RBI single was the only other hit for Belfast, but the Lions took advantage of nine errors to post the win.

Shannon Cross had a single and two RBI for the Mustangs, while Lurah Hess singled.

At Ellsworth, Beth Ashmore rapped three singles and collected four RBI to lead the Trojans past the Eagles in an error-plagued game.

Audrey Ryan added two singles and two RBI, while Jamey Lewis singled twice and drove in a run.

Codie Johnson had two singles and a double and knocked in four runs for the Eagles.

Becky Blue got the lone hit for the Indians.

At Dexter, Tammy Paige drove in the winning run with a two-run single in the fifth for Dexter. Marlene Carnes struck out 10 in the game and had only three walks for the Tigers.

At Pittsfield, Nellie Peck singled twice and scored the winning run in the top of the eighth inning as the Windjammers downed Maine Central Institute.

Sam Hubbard added two singles and a double for the winners, while April Pease singled twice.

Mary Wintle rapped three singles for the Huskies. Brenda Reid and Megan Cianchette had two singles each.

At Bucksport, Angela Brown rapped a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning to propel the Golden Bucks past the previously unbeaten Eagles.

Sherri Sanna ripped a double, triple and drove in three runs for Bucksport, while Kristin Ready had three singles.

Jesse Stevens singled twice and drove in two runs for George Stevens of Blue Hill.

At Bangor, Melanie Brooks drove in four runs with four base hits and Jen Freese had a three-run homer and a single to spark a 24-hit attack that carried Orono to its win over John Bapst.

Winning pitcher Shelly Tyrrell had four singles and two runs batted in and Heather Adams also delivered two runs with three singles.

Angelina Moore knocked in four runs for John Bapst with a three-run homer, a triple and a single and Katie Roy had two singles and an RBI.

At Hermon, Wendy Davis spun an eight-strikeout one-hitter and Marcie Burr singled three times as the Hawks won their sixth game.

Heidi Pace knocked in two runs with a bases-loaded single in the fifth inning for Hermon.

Heather Reardon’s single was the lone hit for the Minutemen.

At Hampden, Mary Thompson struck out seven batters during her four-inning stint and the Broncos went on to post a lopsided win.

Tiffany White singled and collected three RBI to lead the Broncos at the plate. Amy Dwyer singled twice and drove in two runs.

Jamie Nye singled twice for the Warriors.

At Dyer Brook, Jody Brown pitched six innings of no-hit ball and Darcy Chambers finished the no-hitter with a scoreless seventh for the host Warriors.

Brown struck out five, but walked 14 for Southern Aroostook, and drove in two runs with a home run. Jessica Walker rapped three singles and collected three RBIs.
