Peace Corps vets recount experiences

BANGOR – The Bangor Public Library will present a U.S. Peace Corps informational meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, in the board room. Those who have a college degree or extensive work experience, a sense of adventure and a desire to help others help themselves, are invited to attend the program.

A panel of returned volunteers from the Bangor area will recount their diverse experiences and show a brief Peace Corps video.

For many of the more than 160,000 people who have joined the Peace Corps – described as “the toughest job you’ll ever love” – since its founding in 1961, their two-year service has been a way to re-examine their perceptions and redefine their goals and aspirations.

Assignments are currently available in more than 70 countries for volunteers in education, community development, agriculture, environmental education, business development, health and nutrition, and forestry.
