TOPSFIELD — George H. Bunker Jr., a Democrat, has announced his intention to seek election to Maine House District 136.
Bunker served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service from 1975 to 1983 and was a First Class Petty Officer. He owned and operated small grocery, pizza and take-out businesses for four years, and was a rural patrol deputy with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department for seven years, during which he established the county’s Drug Abuse Resistance Education program in 10 area schools.
Since 1992, he has owned and run the Log Cabin restaurant in Topsfield.
Bunker received the Legion of Honor from the National Police Association for an injury in the line of duty in 1989. He also holds the Navy achievement award, three admiral letters of commendation, two good conduct awards, and many lower-ranking letters of commendation and appreciation.
He is a member of the DARE Officers Association, an instructor at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, a certified Maine Law Enforcement Officer, SAD 77 Drug Awareness Advisory Board member, Topsfield Volunteer Fire Department safety officer, vice chairman of United We Stand America Washington County, and former shop steward with the Teamsters Local 340.
