Witches top archrival Rams

BREWER – Alison Lorenz stung a two-run triple to highlight a five-run second inning that helped carry the Brewer Witches to a 10-6 softball victory Thursday over their archrivals, the Bangor Rams.

Sheila Young had two hits and knocked in two runs for Brewer, which guaranteed itself a playoff spot with the win. Alicia Gilmore singled twice to back the pitching of Jaime Ferris.

Michelle Puls rapped two triples and had two RBIs to pace Bangor, while Mandy Ingalls contributed a double and a single, and Jamie Owens two singles.

George Stevens 11, Narraguagus 2

At Harrington, the Eagles improved to 14-2 by blowing open a 2-2 game with nine runs in the last two innings.

Jamie Bowden and Mandi Pert had two singles apiece to lead George Stevens. Linda Schneider added a triple.

Betsy Allen singled and doubled for the host Knights while Venice Bayrd stroked an RBI single.

At Hermon, Mary Wintle fired a four-hitter, striking out seven and walking one, as Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield ended the regular season with a win.

Emily Walker hit a double and two singles, scoring two runs. Jodi Cummings had a run-scoring single in the fifth inning.

Valley sweeps Greenville

At Greenville, Lisa Poulin had four hits and six RBIs to help Valley of Bingham post the sweep. Valley won by scores of 18-9 and 16-11.

Bridgette Paddock had two singles and two RBIs in the opener to aid winning pitcher Poulin, who had a pair of singles.

Sara Hanscom smacked two doubles good for three RBIs and Maren Muzzey had two hits to pace Greenville.

In Game 2, Poulin drilled a grand slam in the third inning and had a two-run double in the fourth. Paddock singled three times and Lindsay Cool had two hits.

Kim Ashe and Muzzey added two hits each for the Lakers.

At Orono, Shelagh Slack slammed a two-run homer and Kelly Kane added a double and single to help the Mount Desert Island Trojans finish their regular season with a victory.

Audry Ryan added two singles for the winners.

Tyra Gettleman slapped three singles for Orono and Melissa Webb added two.
