Ivey to coach Hodgdon girls

Hodgdon High has a new girls basketball coach and the Houlton-Hodgdon ice hockey team has its new coach in place after the SAD 70 school board approved both appointments Monday evening.

Former Hawks standout Wendy Ivey will take over the basketball position, while Joel Trickey will be head up the cooperative team known as the Blackhawks, Hodgdon athletic director Marty Bouchard said after Monday’s meeting.

Ivey is employed as a Gear-Up advisor at Hodgdon High. Bouchard said she played at Houghton College, an NAIA school in New York, and also played at the semi-professional level in Europe.

Ivey is a 1996 graduate of Hodgdon. She racked up impressive accolades in her senior year as a member of the Eastern Maine Class C all-tourney squad, an Aroostook League all-star, and a member of the McDonald’s East C/D all-star team. She also reached the 1,000-point level for the Hawks.

Hodgdon advanced to the Eastern Maine final in the 1996 tournament.

“She has a tremendous passion for the game of basketball,” Bouchard said. “She’s a student of the game and an avid fan at every level.”

Trickey was approved last week by the SAD 29 school board, which governs Houlton, and just needed approval from SAD 70, which governs Hodgdon.

Trickey, a 1971 Houlton graduate, spent last season with the Black Hawks as an assistant coach of the cooperative team.
