BREWSTER, Mass. – Ross McGee shot over a 2-over-par 74 to help the Husson College Braves surge to third place Monday after the first round of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Tournament at The Captains Golf Course.
Shane Ross also turned in a strong round for the Braves of Bangor with a 77 while Corey Pion and Corey Poulin each carded a 78 to give Husson a 307 total, five strokes behind leader Central Connecticut State University. The University of Hartford is second and leads Husson by a stroke.
A total of 47 New England colleges are competing in the two-day tourney, which includes Maine schools Saint Joseph’s of Standish, the University of Southern Maine, and Bates of Lewiston.
The Monks are in 24th place with a 330 while USM and Bates are 37th (351) and 38th (352), respectively.
James Ross turned in the best score for St. Joe’s with an 81 while Pat Otto’s 83 led USM and Andy Kadin’s 85 paced Bates.
