PORTLAND – Former Rep. Patricia Schroeder and Sen. John McCain are the latest national political figures headed to Maine as the election countdown continues.

Schroeder of Colorado will appear at campaign events in Portland and Biddeford on Friday for Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Baldacci. Baldacci, a four-term congressman, faces Republican Peter Cianchette, Green Independent Jonathan Carter and independent John Michael.

On Monday, McCain of Arizona is coming to Portland to campaign for Sen. Susan Collins.
