Man found unconscious faces charges

A Bangor man faces numerous charges after he was found unconscious in a stolen vehicle shortly after it crashed into a parked truck Saturday night.

When police arrived at 20 Division St., they found the nose of a green Oldsmobile Cutlass resting against the left side of a parked pickup truck. The car was blocking the street, and police found Ken Black, 28, unconscious behind the wheel. Bangor police Officer Douglas Moore said he reached in and shut the car engine off and shook Black’s shoulder.

When Black awoke, he moaned and started to use his cell phone, Moore said. Black failed a field sobriety test; and an Intoxilyzer test found his blood alcohol level to be 0.30 percent, nearly four times Maine’s limit of 0.08 percent for anyone over age 21.

In Black’s pockets, police said they found a small bag of marijuana, a marijuana pipe, a set of small hand scales, rolling papers and eyedrops, and in the car were 11 empty cans and one empty bottle of Budweiser and four unopened beer cans, Moore said.

Police said the car is owned by Richard Munson of Davis Street in Bangor, who said that Black is his roommate’s son but did not have permission to use the car. Black was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, unauthorized use of property, operating a vehicle after suspension of his license, failure to give correct name to police, sale or use of drug paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also was arrested on a warrant for failure to pay fines of $2,000.

Black will appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor today.

Three people were injured Friday evening when the car they were in swerved to avoid a deer, police said.

Jessica Buzzell, 16, of Milford had been driving a red 1990 Honda Acura Integra on College Avenue Extension just after 7:30 p.m. when she swerved to the right to avoid a deer, Old Town police Officer Seth Burnes said. The car wound up in the woods, breaking several small trees before coming to a stop. The accident was discovered by a passer-by who called state police, Burnes said. The car was a total loss.

Buzzell, Lindsay Kinch, 16, and Meghan Spinney, 16, both of Old Town, were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where they were treated for minor injuries. Christopher Hall, 16, and Jesse Loring, 17, also of Old Town, were uninjured. All five had been wearing seat belts.

Old Town police were looking Sunday for a man after he allegedly got into a fight in the Riverfront Pub, then went outside, grabbed an extension ladder from under the pub’s steps and threw it against a car, Old Town police Officer Corey Day said.

The car belonged to Mark Rogers, 24, of Old Town. It had more than $300 in damage from dents and scratches.

The man, described as of average build, ran from the area toward Milford, but could not be found Sunday, Day said. Anyone with information about the vandalism may call 827-6358.

A 20-year-old man faces charges of furnishing a place for minors to consume or possess alcohol after local police broke up a party at his South Main Street apartment just after midnight Sunday in Old Town.

Shaun Newell quickly shut off music when police responded to a noise complaint from a neighbor, but police noticed an abundance of red cups containing beer in the hands of minors and were informed by party-goers that the cups were sold to them for use with a keg, Old Town police Officer Tom Adams said. Police found two kegs, each partly filled with beer. The kegs were seized, the party was broken up, and Newell was summoned to appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Dec. 2.

Police on Sunday were looking for a woman after she exchanged six dime coin rolls filled with pennies for $30 at Blockbuster and Bull Moose Music on the Hogan Road in Bangor on Sunday afternoon.

Police described her as 21 to 23, with brunette hair in a ponytail, around 5-foot-7, and weighing around 130 pounds. The rolls had dimes at the ends to appear as rolls of dimes, but were filled with pennies.
