Tyra Gettleman’s late goal keeps Red Riots perfect

ORONO – Tyra Gettleman’s 15th goal of the year, with two minutes left in the game, gave Orono a 1-0 high school field hockey victory over Old Town Friday.

The win allowed the Red Riots to remain unbeaten at 11-0.

Gettleman redirected a Jenn Wlodarski cross into the net for the game-winner. Gettleman also has seven assists for the season. Brooke Monberg made 10 saves on 10 shots in goal.

Christy Danielson made seven saves on nine shots for 4-5-2 Old Town.

Orono won the JV game 2-0.

Bangor 1, Stearns 0

At Bangor, Ginger Pressey’s goal off a Kari Rosenthal assist proved the difference as the Rams improved to 2-9.

Goalkeeper Taryn McNichol made 10 saves in net, facing 10 shots for Bangor.

For Stearns of Millinocket, 5-6, goalie Michelle Eubank made 11 saves, facing 12 shots.

Stearns won the JV game 1-0.

John Bapst 2, Hermon 0

At Hermon, Erica Hake and Alyssa Ross scored unassisted goals as the Crusaders posted their third win.

Edythe Dyer made three saves on seven shots for 3-8 John Bapst of Bangor.

Erica Brewer had four stops on 10 shots for 1-9-1 Hermon.

Hermon won the JV game 1-0.

Hampden, Brewer tie

At Hampden, Brewer and Hampden battled through regulation and two overtimes to a scoreless tie.

For Brewer (7-2-2), goalie Heidi Henderson made seven saves, facing 10 shots.

For Hampden (6-3-2), Amy Hafford made five saves, facing 12 shots.

The JV game was also scoreless.

Girls soccer

Bangor Christian 1, PVHS 1 (OT)

At Bangor, Heather Babineau evened the score off Heather Poirier’s assist 29 minutes into the first half and the two teams battled through two overtimes to the tie.

Tara Matula converted a Kelly Hughes feed into a goal five minutes into the game for 1-11-1 Bangor Christian. Stephanie Regan made nine saves on 15 shots.

Julie Delaite made three stops on eight shots for 3-6-1 Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Bucksport 4, Sumner 1

At Bucksport, Kristin Ready, Megan Smith, Jaime Gilman and Karrie Hoke scored goals as the Golden Bucks improved to 4-5-3.

Tricia Beaulieu and Kaela Jenkins had assists for Bucksport, while Hoke and Kelly Downs split duty in the goal and combined to make eight saves on 10 shots.

Tonya Wilkinson scored on a direct kick for 1-9-2 Sumner of East Sullivan. Alyssa Weaver made 13 saves on 21 shots.

Hermon 3, George Stevens 0

At Hermon, Heather Pace scored two goals and assisted on another to lead the Hawks to a win in their final regular season game.

Liza Doughty added a goal and an assist for the 6-6-2 Hawks. Pam Poland earned the shutout, saving five of seven shots.

Betsy Lepper made 10 saves on 18 shots for 4-3-3 George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill.

Brewer 3, Nokomis 0

At Newport, Denise Hewes scored two goals to lead the Witches to their sixth win against three losses and two ties.

Amy Gregory scored the first goal for Brewer, while Suzy Flagg had an assist. Heather Hogan made eight saves on 11 shots.

Monica Kus made 12 saves on 19 shots for the host Warriors.

Brewer won the JV game in overtime, 3-2.

Old Town 4, John Bapst 0

At Old Town, Sarah Finch scored twice to lead the Indians to their fourth win against six losses and a tie.

Kim Chaisson and Erika Nadeau scored the other goals for Old Town, while Nikki Hayes. Jessi Madden and Shannon Field had assists. Kendra Brown made seven saves on seven shots.

Casia Moffett made nine saves on 21 shots for 3-7-4 John Bapst.

The Crusaders won the JV game, 2-1.

Boys soccer

Penobscot Valley 3, Greenville 1

At Greenville, goalkeeper Corey Fleming made 12 saves while facing 19 shots to lead Penobscot Valley of Howland to its sixth win against five losses.

Matt Menard, Darren Thibeadou and Brad Durost scored the goals for the Howlers.

Mike Burgess scored off a Chad Owens assist for the 9-2 Lakers. Jason Taylor and Josh Glavine combined to make 11 saves on 16 shots.
