PRESQUE ISLE — Voters in central Aroostook will choose municipal officers and school board members during the November election.

Four Presque Isle City Council seats and six SAD 1 school board seats will be on the ballot this year.

One three-year and two four-year terms on the City Council will be open. Running for the seats are incumbent Paul J. Underwood, Norman W. Johnson, Cluney McPherson and Kevin T. Sipes. The two candidates with the most votes will hold the four-year seats, which were created after approval of a new city charter last fall, according to Konni Monson, city clerk.

The candidate with the third-highest votes will fill the three-year council term, said Monson.

Kathleen A. White and Harold W. Wilson are seeking election to fill the remaining year of a three-year City Council term. The seat formerly was held by Brenda Smith.

Running for three-year SAD 1 seats, listed by district sections, are the following: Section 3, (part of Mapleton and Presque Isle), incumbent Terry Sandusky and Faye A.L. York; Section 7, incumbent Brandon Roope and Ronald M. Beaulieu; Section 10, Thomas D. Deschaine and Paul R. Lynch; Section 15, incumbent Arthur F. Beaulieu and John R. Johnston; and Section 16, incumbent Debrah J. Raymond and Pamela J. Palm.

Two three-year terms for both City Council and the school board are open in Caribou. Seeking election to the Caribou council seats are incumbent Philip R. Bennett Jr., incumbent Richard A. Fortier, and challenger Joseph A. Piccolella. Candidates for the school board seats are Sherrill A. Campbell, Samuel W. Collins, and Bruce M. Freme.

Three-year seats on the SAD 32 board of directors are open in Ashland and Portage. Incumbent Heidi Campbell is seeking re-election and James O’Clair is running as a write-in candidate for one of two school board seats in Ashland, according to SAD 32 Superintendent Terry Despres.

Incumbent Joanne Nelson is seeking a SAD 32 seat in Portage, and is opposed by John Condon. No nomination papers have been submitted for a selectman’s seat formerly held by Gerard Charette Jr., who resigned this year. Nomination papers for the seat, which has 2 1/2 years remaining on a three-year term, will be accepted through Oct. 28 at the Portage town office.

Two three-year terms for both the Town Council and SAD 20 school board are open in Fort Fairfield. Candidates for Town Council are Robert D. Ashby, Sherry D. Clark, Gary J. Cyr and Ronald Jalbert Jr. Seeking election to the school board are Jeffrey M. Armstrong, Frederick A. Bowker Jr., Donna L. Kenneson and Becky L. Rattray.
