BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

A letter from Patrick Albert of East Holden (BDN, Oct. 22-23) which was critical of the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife for “giving the biggest drawings (doe permits) to the out-of-state hunters,” was not factual.

This year Maine residents received 28,684 any-deer (doe) permits; non-residents received 4,338 any-deer permits. By percentage, this means that Mainers got 85 percent of the doe permits, out-of-state hunters got 15 percent.

The ratio of resident to non-resident permits issued is a product of license sales. Since the any-deer permit program began in 1986, Maine residents have always received about 85 percent of the permits drawn. V. Paul Reynolds, director Information and education Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Augusta
