Braves defeat Beavers

FARMINGTON – Steph Shaw scored 13 second-half points as the Husson College Braves handed the University of Maine-Farmington its first setback of the season 76-70 Wednesday in women’s college basketball action.

Shaw finished with a game-high 19 points for Husson, now 8-1. Tara Leavitt added 16 points for the winners while Sue Ann Allen and Stacy Hafford contributed 10 points each.

For UMF, 6-1, Nicole Fraser led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points. Kristy Parent and Ann Betts had 12 points each while Sharon Connolly added 11.

At Farmington, junior center Rick Sinclair scored 20 points to lead a balanced scoring attack that carried the Husson College Braves to a Maine Athletic Conference win over the University of Maine-Farmington.

Other Braves in double figures were Obadiah Johnson with 16, Xavier Joyner with 15, and Jimmy Watkins with 10.

Troy Norton had 20 points for UMF, Matt Cousins had 19 points and 12 rebounds, and Dan LeGage scored 11 points.
