MACHIAS – Phil Munro led the University of Maine-Machias Clippers to a season-opening 88-59 men’s basketball victory of St. Thomas University of New Brunswick, Canada with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Gary Dussard had 15 points and Chujor Chujor added 13 for the Clippers. Wayne Clarke had 12 rebounds.
Jason Comer led St. Thomas University of New Brunswick with 22 points. Bud Tozer grabbed 11 boards.

At Point Lookout Field in Northport, Pat Morgan’s goal in the 85th minute was the game-winner as the Clippers topped the Monks in a Sunrise Conference semifinal.
Jorge Tassara assisted on Morgan’s winner. Brett Howarth scored two goals for UM-Machias (14-2-1). Andy Swift and Cortenay Campbell combined to make eight saves on nine shots. The Clippers will face the winner of Thursday’s semifinal UM-Fort Kent and UM-Farmington in a championship game.
Nicholas Denett scored a goal with an assist from Jesse Fowler for the 5-9-1 Beavers. Bryan Fischer stopped 12 of 29 shots.
Women’s basketball
St. Thomas 59, UM-Machias 54
At Machias, Jennifer Savage led St. Thomas in scoring with 19 points. Kendra Hunter backed her up with 16.
East Machias’ Sara Ricker provided a lot of the Clippers’ scoring with 21 points. Woodland’s Angela Robb had eight points for UMM.
