Bowman, Burgess power Nokomis past Bangor

BANGOR – Kelly Bowman scored 19 points and Kate Burgess tossed in 11 as Nokomis of Newport upended Bangor 48-41 in a schoolgirl basketball game Wednesday at Red Barry Gym.

The Warriors, who outscored the Rams 16-9 in the fourth quarter to notch the victory, avenged a 54-44 setback earlier this month.

Katie Clark’s game-high 20 points paced Bangor.

At the Bangor Auditorium, senior center Rachel Santospago scored eight of her 14 points in the third quarter as Deer Isle-Stonington outscored Bangor Christian 18-10 to take a lead it would never relinquish. The teams were tied at halftime.

Annette Foss’ game-high 15 points and Sara Rockwell’s 14 points and 12 rebounds paced Bangor Christian.

At Readfield, Jessica Demers scored nine of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and Cheri Lemieux had eight more as Maranacook rallied from a five-point deficit to post the win.

Lemieux finished with a team-high 17 points, Rebecca Larson and Demers had 16 each, and Amanda Lusczcki had 11, including six in the final period.

Maranacook, which avenged an earlier loss to Georges Valley of Thomaston, went 17-for-23 from the foul line.

Mia Lombardo had a game-high 34 points for the Buccaneers and Summer Stuart had 14.

At Alfond Arena in Orono, Chad Allen’s goal with 7:27 left to play on assists from Ryan Girard and Ben Roeder to tie the game for Brewer. Neither team could crack the net after that.

For 9-3-1 Brewer, Chris O’Donnell had two goals. Matt Blaine saved 14 of 17 shots.

Wes Pooler, Andy Roy, and Rob Magda each scored a goal for the 7-5-1 Black Raiders. Jon Taylor made 23 saves on 26 shots.
