Portland is the most popular destination for people relocating from Bangor, while Boston ranks as the top city from which people are moving to Bangor. The second most popular destination for people relocating from Bangor is Boston, followed by Hartford, Conn., and Philadelphia.

These findings were released July 20 by Ryder Truck Rental, the world’s largest truck rental and leasing company, and are based on information gathered during the first six months of 1990 from Ryder’s more than 6,400 truck rental locations nationwide as well as statistics from various government sources.

Ryder also noted that July is one of the busiest months in the peak moving season, which extends from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Of the more than 42 million Americans moving this year, nearly 80 percent will do it themselves, using a rented or borrowed vehicle.

Other popular destination cities for people relocating from Bangor include Tampa, Fla., and New York City.

The second largest source of people moving to the Bangor area was Portland, followed by Hartford, New York City, Providence and Philadelphia.

In order of popularity the top six cities to which people are moving from Bangor are: Portland, Boston, Hartford, Philadelphia, Tampa and New York City.
