LEWISTON – A group that held a book cutting a year ago to protest a Harry Potter movie is back at it again.
The ministry of the “Jesus Party” will hold an Anti-Harry Potter Conference on Thursday in Lewiston.
The Rev. Douglas Taylor, ministry director, is inviting parents, school board members, teachers, librarians, bookstore owners, clergy and anyone with opposing views about the Harry Potter craze to attend the conference.
The event takes place on the eve of the release of the movie “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.” Last year’s book-cutting came on the day before the “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” movie debut.
Taylor and his followers see parallels between Harry Potter and true witchcraft as it is practiced today.
At Thursday’s conference, they plan to show footage of witches, their rituals and spells. The conference will conclude with the cutting up of the “Chamber of Secrets” book.
“I have been branded by Potter fans as a chief ‘muggle,’ and I would feel bad if I didn’t live up to their expectations,” Taylor said. In the Potter books, a muggle is a human who doesn’t believe in the world of witches or who despises it as evil.
