Sumner girls roar back for win

EAST SULLIVAN – Dara Glass scored 18 points for Sumner which came back from a 15-point halftime deficit for a 55-48 schoolgirl basketball victory over George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill here Thursday night.

Melanie Dodge added 17 points and Tema Rogers 10 to Sumner’s eighth win against 10 defeats.

Deirdre Disney-Houi and Mandi Carter each scored 12 points for Stevens which also finished the regular season 8-10.

At Guilford, Kelly Dow sank a field goal with 30 seconds left in the game to give the visiting Ponies the lead for good and eventual win over Piscataquis. Dow scored 13 total points, Kylie Kimball added 18, and Dari Ann White led Foxcroft with 19 points.

Karen Burden tossed in 22 for the Pirates, Dari Ann White had 17, and Kassy Dulac scored 15 points in a losing effort.

At Lincoln, Angela Mayo scored the winning basket with less than a minute left and Kelly McLeod forced a Lee turnover with five seconds left to give the Lynx the season-ending victory.

Laura LaVallee paced the winners with 13 points and six steals. Mayo grabbed 10 rebounds and Casey Lowell notched four assists.

Tanya Mushero and Stephanie Thurlow each scored 12 points for Lee.

At Danforth, the Patriots jumped out to a 16-point lead at the half and then held off the Vikings for the victory.

Sarah Rockwell paced the winners with 16 points. Annette Foss and Rachel Sobey each chipped in with 15.

At Schenck, Thomas Jamo poured in 43 points and added seven assists and four steals to lead the host Wolverines to an upset win over Penquis. Greg Courier scored 15 points in a winning effort and grabbed eight rebounds.

Rusty Lyford led the Patriots’ balanced offensive attack with 25 points. Chris Cowing had 16, John Pokrywka added 11, and Brian Heal recorded 10 more.

Mark Treadwell had 19 points for the winners and Martin pulled down 11 rebounds to go with his 17 points.

Bangor Christian swept the season series from East Grand.

Budd Shain’s game-high 22 points and Andrew Emery’s 10 led East Grand.

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Chad Allen scored twice and added an assist to help Brewer beat Lawrence. Chris Roeder had a goal and an assist for the Witches, now 13-3-1, and Jon Allen, Matt Ennan, and Scott Corey scored a goal a piece. Shawn Murphy was in goal for Brewer.

Nick Namer was the goalkeeper for Lawrence.
