SAD 27 board to discuss policy, magnet school

FORT KENT — The board of directors of SAD 27 will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, March 17, in the library at Community High School at Fort Kent.

Directors will have the first reading of a policy on recognition of religious beliefs and customs. The controversial policy was amended at their last meeting.

Directors will discuss state financial support for the proposed Maine Mathematics and Science School at Limestone.

They will also consider a lease or the purchase of a modular building to house the superintendent’s office. The present office on Main Street must be vacated by July 31. The new building would be located on district property.

In the event that Eagle Lake and Winterville are successful in an attempt to withdraw from the seven-town school district, directors will be considering acceptance of students from the two towns as tuition-paying students. Action on withdrawal is expected by the end of the school year.

Directors will also consider a gift to the Wallagrass Elementary School, the administering of a survey on tobacco use to high school students, submitting a grant application for mathematics and science, appointment of a nominating committee for its officers and employment of administrators and nonprobationary teachers.
