BANGOR DAILY NEWS (BANGOR, MAINE

Ah, if we could only replace a biased, narrow-minded newspaper editor as easily as a chancellor of the state’s university system. If he were concerned with the public that attends and supports the EdNet of Maine. If by some stroke of luck we could actually interest him in educating himself rather than taking others’ words for the quality of education to the outlying areas. If he were interested in a population who by numbers outweigh the faculty of the University of Maine System. If he could only see that the taxpayers are the ones who will lose if EdNet does not move forward. If he could only see that if you remove welfare from people, when there are already starving children in Maine, you must supply a method for them to feed their children. If he could but realize the importance to educate them in a manner they can afford financially, and emotionally. If he could but realize that the “public” are not mindless followers of biased reporting. If he could only realize that even the distance learners deserve respect for their continuing efforts and accomplishments. If he would but learn for himself, but alas there doesn’t seem to be much chance of that. I would like to apologize to the public for reading this paper. Ida W. Page Ellsworth
