100-lap sizzler set for Unity

It’s a doubleheader weekend at Unity Raceway, which will be the site of the season’s second race in the Irving Summer Sizzler Series.

Unity will hold its regular racing program today at 7 p.m., with the action sponsored by Jordan Foods and O’Connor GMC/Buick of Waterville. Sunday afternoon, 15-20 Late Model Sportsman drivers from eastern Maine will race for the $2,000 first-place check in the 100-lap Summer Sizzler race.

There are eight races in the series and the leading point-getter in those races will take home an $8,000 first prize.

Speedway 95 in Hermon has scheduled a full program sponsored by Kelley Pontiac-Mazda and Union Street Citgo at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Besides the Extra Lap Series racing in the Limited Sportsman, Super Street, Strictly Street and Sport 4s, there will be a 50-lap Legends Cars Race and bicycle racing for youngsters.

Derek Lynch, winner of last year’s True Value Oxford 250, will be among the drivers converging on Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough for tonight’s Pennzoil/VIP Auto Parts 150. The race is a tour stop for the NASCAR Busch North Series.

Points leader Dave Dion of Hudson, N.H., and Robbie Crouch are among the other top drivers entered in that event.

On Saturday, New Hampshire International Speedway hosts the 72nd Loudon Camel Classic, American Motorcyclist Association races, including 125cc Grand Prix racing. The action begins with Superbike qualifying at 12:50 p.m.

The 125cc Grand Prix, the first of four features, starts at 3:30 p.m.

The American Canadian Tour has arrived at Airborne International Raceway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., for the LCT 150. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
