Corkins and Ellis win re-election

GOULDSBORO — Two selectmen won their bids for re-election, while a newcomer was elected to a vacated two-year seat on the Gouldsboro Board of Selectman Monday.

According to Town Manager Sally Crowley, incumbents Luann Corkins and Raymond Ellis garnered 272 and 248 votes, respectively. They had vied for two three-year selectmen’s seats against Raymond Jones and Dana Rice, who received 188 and 239 votes, respectively.

“I just hope we can bring the town back together,” remarked Corkins following her re-election.

She says the board plans to start monthly, drop-in gatherings providing residents an opportunity to comment on different issues.

Prior to the elections, Raymond Ellis said he was running for re-election because he thought his expertise in road construction management could be of use to the town at a time when it is spending tens of thousands of dollars to upgrade roads. He has also helped to upgrade the town office’s computer system and dealt with the septic system problem at the community center.

Cynthia Stanley landed 281 votes in her bid for a two-year term as selectman. She ran against Edison Church, who received 236 votes. She has pledged to put to use her mediation skills acquired as operations manager of the children, youth and families department at the Washington Hancock Community Agency.

Gouldsboro Assessor Barbara Fishbein lost her bid for re-election, receiving 190 votes, to Peter Arnemann, who netted 314 votes.

In the school board race, Colby Young defeated incumbent Linda Dunbar. They received 357 votes and 126 votes, respectively.

Walter Dickhaut, Edesse Fox, Carol Lingle and Claudette Potter — all of whom ran unopposed — were elected to the planning board.
