LD 1356 is now in the hands of your senators and representatives in Augusta.
This bill allows anyone over the age of 18 who owns a dog or cat or acts as the owner’s agent to shoot with a gun, or even a bow and arrow, “utilizing a weapon and ammunition of suitable caliber and other characteristics to produce instantaneous death by a single shot.”
In May a Kittery patrolman, trained in the use of firearms and using a 9-millimeter handgun, tried to shoot a dog. He shattered its paw and punctured its lung but did not produce “instantaneous death.” Following $1,500 worth of treatment the dog is recovering.
LD 1356 would make it legal for everyone and anyone to play Rambo with dogs and cats.
Contact your senators, 287-1540, and your representatives, 287-1400, and ask them to vote against LD 1356. Betty W. Sawyer Jonesport
