Camden defeats Knox Suburban> Brewer takes District 3 area title

Russ Fitzpatrick’s bases-loaded two-run double put Camden’s 9- and 10-year-old All-Star Little League team on track to eliminate Knox Suburban 8-3 from the District 2 playoffs Thursday.

Camden will play Waldo at Camden at 10 a.m. Saturday for the right to face Belfast in the District 2 title game on Tuesday.

Belfast handed Waldo its first loss 4-3 Thursday.

Brewer wrapped up the District 3 Greater Bangor 11- and 12-year-old title with an 18-2 win over Bangor East.

Millinocket won a slugfest against Border 17-14 to take the title in that region.

In 14- and 15-year-old Greater Bangor action, Old Town defeated Sunrise 8-7 and will face Brewer at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Brewer defeated Millinocket 17-1 in the nightcap at Mansfield Complex, pairing Millinocket with Sunrise in the losers’ bracket at 10 a.m. Sunday.

District 3

Brewer 18, Bangor East 2

At Brewer, Adam Freeman, Joel Barrett and Adam Barnes combined to one-hit Bangor East and win the title.

Barrett led Brewer with a single, two doubles and a triple. Barnes had three singles and a triple. Freeman had three singles and Jason Work had two singles and a double.

Bangor’s lone hit came off the bat of Billy Baker who doubled in both Bangor runs in the first inning.

Millinocket 17, Border 14

At Hodgdon, Millinocket hung on to a wild-game to win.

Jason Cummings and Joey McKellen combined to strike out 17 Border batters, while Ryan Sweeney knocked out a two-run homer and a single. Brad Wheaton had two singles and a double.

For Border, Matthew Day had three singles, Paul Cain had a three-run homer, and Adam Byther knocked out a single and double.

At Union, Russ Fitzpatrick’s bases-loaded fourth-inning double drove in two runs for the victory.

Fitzpatrick also had a double and single, as did pitcher Patrick Alyward who sturck out nine and walked one in six innings. Troy Gabriel and Mikail Rousso each had a single.

For Knox Suburban, Scott Hastings and Brady Butler each had a pair of singles, and Joey Marden had a double.

Old Town 8, Sunrise 7

At Mansfield Complex, Old Town’s three unearned runs in the seventh inning gave them the first round-win.

Old Town’s Jeremy Miller knocked out a one-run triple in the first inning and struck out 12 over seven innings, and Matt Duque and Adam Boynton each had RBI-singles.

For Sunrise, Adam Meyer struck out 10 while fashioning a three-hitter. Meyer also had a single and double, and Justin Carter and Travis Bickford each had two singles and an RBI. Jason Pinkham had three singles and two RBIs.

Brewer 17, Millinocket 1

At Mansfield Complex, Bill Ford tossed five innings of one-hit ball to down Millinocket.

Ford helpped his own cause with four singles. Buzz Simpson had a double and two singles, Corey Nitengale had a triple and a single, Chad Gilley had two singles and Erik Pinkham had a double and a single to pace Brewer.

Trevor Alley singled for the only Millinocket hit.
