The pro stock late model sportsmen’s Summer Sizzler Series rolls into Speedway 95 for the first time this summer Sunday afternoon.
Unity’s Stan Meserve will lead the invasion to John Phippen Jr. and Jon Austin’s home track, according to George Thomas, Speedway spokesman.
Kenny Wright of Woolwich occupies the lead with 156 points after three races and is competing for a share of the series-end $8,000 point fund. Trailing by 10 points is Dick Belisle who finished sixth at Sunday’s Coastal 150 in Wiscasset. Woolwich’s Scott Chubbuck has collected 126 points to sit in third place, two points ahead of Meserve.
Phippen, of Bar Harbor, sits in 15th place while Austin of Otis is in 17th.
Sunday’s 2 p.m. race promises $2,000 to the winner and 50 points for the eight-race series.
The Hermon track will also sponsor a full racing card starting at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the Sportsman Dash for Cash with a $1,000 purse.
At Unity Raceway, D.A.C. Automotive and Tech Med sponsors the Sport Fours’ 50-lap race at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Racing after the $250 purse will be the “Lincolnville Express” Keryn Laite, who has already racked up 10 victories in making a run for his third consecutive track championship.
He will be pursued by Oakland’s Bruce Pooler who sits 16 points behind Laite in the season point standings, and former Clinton resident Al Buker, of Belleview, Fla. Buker hauled his Mustang to Maine and finished second in last weekend’s feature race.
The American-Canadian Tour moves through the Maritime racetracks this weekend with the Atlantic 150 at Scotia SpeedWorld in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Friday night. On Sunday afternoon, the tour will move to New Brunswick International at Fredericton, New Brunswick, for the Maritime 150.
Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, N.H. has moved atop the point standings on the strength of his fifth tour win Saturday at the Quebec 150. He leads Unity’s Ralph Nason, who finished 14th in Quebec, by 31 points after nine races.
Spud Speedway will host a full racing card including a demolition derby, starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
