Breast-cancer exhibit opens in South Portland

ROCKPORT — “The Faces of Breast Cancer, A Photographic Essay” will be at Center Court at the Maine Mall, South Portland, from Aug. 2 through Aug. 15.

It displays the faces of 63 women who have died of breast cancer — at least one from every state — and tells something of their lives. These 63 represent the hundreds of thousands who have died.

Penobscot Bay Medical Center and its Breast Cancer Intervention Project are the “Title Sponsors” of the exhibit in Maine.

Linda Zeigler, program manager for the Intervention Project, will have a booth at the Mall during the show’s two-week run. The booth will feature photographs, local newspaper articles and memorabilia from the two Breast Cancer Awareness Walks held in the mid-coast.

“The Face of Breast Cancer” was developed by the National Breast Cancer Coalition and has been exhibited in Washington D.C., Tennessee, Texas and Illinois. From Maine it will go to major cities across the country to promote research into the cause.
