Finance committee suggests skate park trust account

BANGOR – Members of the City Council’s finance committee agreed Wednesday to recommend that the city establish a trust and agency account for the Bangor Skate Park.

The 100-by-60-foot park, which opened in June 2001, was the product of a two-year effort by the Bangor Skate Park Committee. Many of the committee members were local skateboarders and other youth.

According to city documents, the group raised $41,452 to purchase and maintain the equipment. Of that total, $35,742 was used to develop and equip the facility.

Eastern Maine Charities has managed the funds on the volunteer basis. If the full council approves the measure, the $5,710 balance – and any future contributions to the park – would be placed in the proposed account.

Funds from the account would be spent for replacement parts, material and labor for routine repairs and upkeep of the park. City Council approval would be required for any large or unusual purchases.
