Senior Games Sept. 14-15

Senior citizens, those 55 and older, who like to compete in sports may participate in the fourth Maine Senior Games, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, in Portland and Bangor.

Events will include track, swimming, bowling, golf, tennis, table tennis, racquetball, bicycling, horseshoes, basketball, softball throw and football throw.

To ensure fair competition participants in events will be classified by age groups: 55 through 59; 60 through 64; 65 through 69; 70 through 74; 75 through 79 and those older than 79.

An entry fee of $5 includes a certificate and T-shirt, but additional fees will be charged for bowling and golf. Entry forms are available at Casco Northern Bank offices or from Southern Maine Area Agency on Aging.

More than 300 people joined the games in 1989, and for many it was the first time they had competed in a sport, according to a statement released by Maine Senior Games Inc. The organization is part of Southern Maine and Eastern Area Agencies of Aging and is sponsored by Casco Northern Bank.
