We never met Helen and Scott Nearing, but would offer a quotation from the introduction to “Continuing the Good Life”:
“Homesteading in Vermont and in Maine taught us many things about life in general and homesteading in particular. Both were part and parcel of one experience: building and maintaining a solvent family economy amid the wreckage and drift of a society that was disintegrating in accordance with the laws of its own self-destructive being.”
The Nearings were revolutionaries who passed on that spirit to any that would pay attention. Aneka Tobias Lloyd Barrington Brighton Plantation
