CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Andrea Durko scored with 10:52 left in the first overtime to give the Boston College Eagles a 1-0 field hockey victory over the University of Maine Black Bears Sunday.
The win snapped the Bears’ five-game winning streak as they beat Yale 3-2 on Saturday in Cape Elizabeth.
On Sunday, Anne Marie Ambros and Nicole Statuta each notched an assist on the game-winning goal by setting up a penalty corner. Goalie Sarah Egnaczyk made four saves on seven shots for 11-5 BC.
For 11-6 Maine, goalie Cindy Botett made 10 saves on 18 shots.
On Saturday, Anne Elkanich sparked the Maine comeback. She scored the game-winner, her second goal of the day, with 6:30 remaining in the second half.
Kacey Strout’s goal, her ninth of the season, tied the game with 23:15 remaining in the game. Marti Kane made five saves on seven Yale shots.
For 9-4 Yale, Lindsay Hobbs scored on a Happy Bowen assist, and Keltie Ferris added a second goal. Lesley Frieder recorded nine saves on 13 shots.
Women’s soccer
Hartford 7, Maine 1
At Orono, Donna Holyman booted in a hat trick and an assist to lead 17th-ranked Hartford to the win Saturday.
Jessica Reifer became the 11-3-1 Hawks leading career scorer with the addition of two goals and an assist, upping her tally to 59 goals and 28 assists. Irene Stelling dished out three assists, Stephanie Chmura and Carol Prendergast each added a goal, for Hartford, which moves to 5-0 in North Atlantic Conference play. Keeper Danielle Rotundi made two saveson eight Maine shots.
For the 3-10 Black Bears, Sheila Fenderson made six saves on 23 shots before being relieved by Jennifer Terpolilli, who made four saves on nine shots. Kerstin Adami prevented the shutout for UMaine, which falls to 0-4 in NAC play.
UNE 3, UMPI 1
At Biddeford Pool, the 10-2 Knights scored twice in the first half and never looked back as they got goals from three different players to down 8-3-1 Owls.
Melissa Dauteuil opened the game’s scoring unassisted at 27:11 for the University of New England. Sarah Pacheco rounded out the first half scoring on an assist from Danielle Derosier. Alison Morrisey had the final UNE goal off a feed from Sara Semones. Goalie Dawn Albert saved one of two shots.
Sarah Roy tallied the lone goal for UMaine-Presque Isle on a penalty kick. Keli Daigle stopped nine of 14.
Men’s soccer
St. Joe’s 3, UMM 2 (OT)
At Machias, Mike Foye’s goal on a Scott Hayman assist in the game’s 121st minute gave St. Joseph’s College the overtime win against UMaine-MachiasSaturday.
Matt Stratton drew first blood for the 5-11 Monks on an assist from Rob McDougal 27:38 into the first half. Joel Wezowicz would restore the Monks’ lead at 27:53 into the second half with a Frank Dearborn assist.
But the 4-10-1 Clippers fought back from both deficits, the first on a Matt Williams goal at 38:41 into the first half with an assist from Mark Hebert. Jonathon Svor would tie the game at 2-2 with 2:35 remaining in the second half.
Shaun Beauregard made nine saves on 11 shots to record the win. Patrick Lewis and Scott Douglas combined to make 12 saves on 37 Monks’ shots.
UMF 2, UMPI 0
At Farmington, Jamie Beaudoin gave the Beavers a lead on their 11th win with his goal on a Laughn Berthiaume assist with 25:25 remaining in the first half Saturday.
Robin Gronvold iced the game with a goal on a Gary Marden assist with 17:20 remaining in the second half for 11-1 UMaine-Farmington. Josh Verville made five saves on seven shots.
For 9-5 UMaine-Presque Isle, Dave Claing made four saves on 16 shots.
Towson State 3, Maine 1
At Towson, Md., on Sunday, freshman Peter Kaijasilta scored two goals for the fourth game in a row to lead the 19th-ranked Tigers to a North Atlantic Conference victory and snap the Bears’ nine-game winning streak.
Towson is now 13-2 overall and 6-3 in the NAC while Maine is 9-4-1 and 4-1-1.
Erik Washington added a goal for the winners and goalie Ethan Jennings made 12 saves.
Paul Kelly scored a second-half goal for Maine off an Andy Guastaferro pass. Goalie Nathan Benoit made 12 saves.
Thomas 3, Husson 1
At Husson, the visiting 7-8 Terriers of Thomas College used a balanced attack to defeat the 12-4 Braves.
Chris Parsons, Jahama Charles, and Jay Fogg each had a goal as goalie Dyke Lawrence turned back seven of the 21 Husson shots he saw.
For Husson, Jason Hill tallied the lone goal off an Adam Healsewood corner kick. Ben Masterson stopped four of 13 Thomas attempts.
Maine Maritime 3, Rivier 2 (2OT)
At Nashua, New Hampshire, B.C. Voyou scored with 6:00 left in the second overtime on a pass from Craig Dube to power the 6-10-2 Mariners to the win.
Rivier’s Dan Defoe opened the game with a goal at the 9:30 mark of the first half. B.C. Voyou tied the 1-1 on a tally with 10:00 remaining in the half. After returning from the halftime break, Aaron Defoe put the Raiders up 2-1 at 29:00, but the Mariner’s would not be outdone as Jason Frazier answered with a goal of his own to send the game into overtime.
MMA’s Mark Thibodeau turned back 14 of the 18 shots he faced.
Rivier goalie Eric Monroe rejected 25 of 36.
