PORTLAND – As a winter storm Thursday deposited snow in some parts of Maine and rain in others, forecasters cautioned that another storm was waiting in the wings.
Some interior sections received about a half-foot of snow, but communities along the coast got mostly rain.
Auburn and Bridgton got 6 inches of snow and Cherryfield 5.5 inches, the National Weather Service said.
Only about a half-inch of snow fell in Portland, which also got rain and mixed precipitation. The storm was enough to prompt some schools to cancel classes for the day. It also slowed traffic during the morning commute.
