Four Bears Chosen to NAC team

University of Maine senior sweeper Paul Kelly was selected to the All-North Atlantic Conference soccer first team for the second consecutive year.

Two of his University of Maine teammates, senior striker Jake Ouimet and junior midfielder Kyle Gray, were also selected to the first team and senior fullback Dan Noblet earned second team honors.

Northeastern junior striker Bjorn Hansen, whose 37 points led the conference, was chosen the Player of the Year by the league’s coaches; Towson State striker Petteri Kaijasilta, a 31-point scorer, was the Rookie of the Year and Towson State’s Frank Olszewski was the Coach of the Year.

The Black Bears finished 10-7-1 overall, 5-3-1 in the conference. Their 5-3-1 record left them fifth and out of the four-team league tourney which gets underway on Friday at Drexel.

In addition to being rock solid on defense, the skillful Kelly had his most productive offensive season this past fall with six goals and two assists in 17 games. He concluded his Black Bear career with 14 and six in 64 games.

Ouimet, the school’s all-time leading scorer with 36 goals and 14 assists for 86 points in 65 games, racked up nine goals and seven assists in 18 games this fall; Gray had a goal and a school record-tying eight assists in 17 games and Noblet scored a goal and played tenacious defense in 18 games. Noblet concluded his career with seven goals and five assists in 58 games.

Also chosen to the second team was Cape Elizabeth’s Mike Brady, a senior fullback at New Hampshire.
