Weed helps Mustangs trip up Huskies

PITTSFIELD – Leslie Weed sank three 3-pointers in the third period to spark the Mount View Mustangs to a 41-37 schoolgirl basketball victory over the Maine Central Institute Huskies Tuesday night.

Weed finished with 15 for the Mustangs of Thorndike and Naomi Gillette added 12.

Jaime Jensen’s 17 led MCI.

At Guilford, Kerri Russell scored on a three-point play with less than a minute to play to give the undefeated Patriots some breathing room and a 58-53 lead. Russell had eight of her game-high 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Annie Gray added 17 points for the Patriots, and Erin Weston had 10.

Jen Moore scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Pirates, and Julie Titcomb contributed 15 points and 12 rebounds.
