Sex, drug offenses among indictments

ROCKLAND – After more than three days of deliberation, a Knox County Superior Court grand jury issued 41 indictments Thursday charging people with crimes that were mostly drug-related.

During the closed sessions, the grand jury reviewed 45 cases, including one drug case that involves the forfeiture of nearly $44,000.

In addition to the 41 indictments, the grand jury returned three secret indictments and one no-bill. Secret indictments are not released until an accused person is arrested. No-bills are cases that are presented that do not result in indictments.

Of the 41 indictments, there was one case involving sexual offenses. Beverly N. Haskell, 78, of Rockland is accused of one count of attempted gross sexual assault, five counts of unlawful sexual contact and four assaults.

The crimes are alleged to have occurred from April 15, 2000, through Aug. 27, 2002, against a female under 14.

The drug-related case involving criminal forfeiture concerned an allegation against Wade G. Reed, 49, of Friendship for unlawful trafficking in marijuana and marijuana cultivation. Reed also faces criminal forfeiture involving $43,890, which was seized Sept. 28, 2001.

Another forfeiture seeks to take a 1996 Dodge Avenger from Michael Viera, 31, of Tiverton, R.I., for trafficking in heroin and importation of heroin, charges on which he was indicted.

Timothy A. Allenwood, 29, of Searsport was indicted for trafficking in cocaine and possession of heroin and faces forfeiture of $1,100.

Others facing drug charges are: Charles C. Woodbury, 31, of Rockland, two indictments for one count each of possession of heroin; Dustin E. Barrows, 19, of Rockland, stealing drugs (hydrocodone) and receiving stolen property; Nicole L. Erickson, 20, of Rockland, possession of heroin and theft; Lorraine H. Woodbury, also known as Lorraine H. Libby, 30, of Rockland, two indictments – one for possession of heroin and violation of condition of release and the other for two counts of theft; Cory S. Simmons, 20, of South Thomaston, possession of heroin and operating after suspension; Aimee R. Davis, 26, of Rockland, possession of heroin.

Also, Jay A. Field, 33, of Warren, two indictments – one for acquiring drugs by deception (hydrocodone) and another for operating after revocation and criminal operating under the influence of intoxicants; Cynthia Y. Reed, 38, of Rockland, possession of heroin and operating after suspension; Jamie P. Moody, 25, of Waldoboro, possession of heroin; and Donna M. Dyer, 29, of Rockland, stealing drugs (Flexeril) and theft; and Donald E. McMahan Jr., 46, of Rockland, possession of heroin.

Alcohol-related cases were against: Stephen G. Wentworth, 44, of Rockland, criminal operating under the influence, assault on an officer, operating after revocation, assault, failure to stop for an officer, violation of condition of release, driving to endanger and refusing to submit to arrest; Christopher J. McKee, 25, of Lincolnville, criminal OUI and operating after revocation; William J. Doniel, 24, of Warren, criminal OUI and eluding an officer; and Barry K. Thompson, 32, of Rockland, criminal OUI, three counts of passing a roadblock, driving to endanger and criminal mischief.

Others indicted were: Robert J. Lindsey Jr., 45, of Rockland, burglary, three counts of theft and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person; Wallace E. Thompson, 33, of Waldoboro, terrorizing; Jason W. Olsen, 18, of Friendship, aggravated assault; Seth E. Simmons, 19, of Friendship, aggravated assault; Danielle Reed, 25, of Friendship, two counts of aggravated assault; Garrett R. Stover, 41, of South Berwick, negotiating a worthless instrument; Brian C. Campbell, 56, of South Thomaston, operating after revocation; and Steven D. Rackliff, 41, of Warren, operating after revocation.

Also, Charles D. Collins, 23, of Union, burglary, theft and violation of condition of release; Keith A. Gardner, 29, of Spruce Head, eluding an officer, two counts of passing a roadblock, operating after suspension and driving to endanger; Robert H. Lawson Jr., 35, of Thomaston, operating after revocation; Gene Richard Kelly, 42, of South Thomaston, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person; Nathan F. McClure IV, 22, of Belfast, two counts of operating after revocation; Arnold S. Pease II, 41, of Thomaston, assault; Benjamin F. Oakes, 22, of Cushing, two counts of aggravated assault; and Donald A. Joy, 21, of Waterville, aggravated criminal trespass, two counts of assault, terrorizing and violation of condition of release.
